Do you have a fear that stops you from starting a blog? Your biggest barrier may be your confidence, you may be scared of what others may thing, or you don't know where to start and procrastinate. The common point with all those fears is the fear of failure/rejection. Most of the fears we experience in our life are in fact little fears that we let taking WAY too many spaces. Having a blog or business is not always easy, but if you are passionate, you will not let those fears stop you.
What are you scared of?
Are you scare of not be able to share your knowledge?
By understanding your fears, you will be able to notify when your fears are coming and overcome it.
Fear is just energy and fails perception of the reality. To shift your negative thoughts, you need to re-label your fear. For me, I don’t fail a project, I learn and grow from that experience. I also truly believe that everything happens for a reason. If I don’t work with a new potential client, I think this was just meant to be. Maybe, this customer wasn’t a good fit for me. I try to learn from that experience, and I move on. I don’t let those negative outcomes affect my day.
Create a bigger fear
One of the strategies that work well for me was to create a fear greater than the one I experience. If I’m scared of creating a video (by the way I’m working on it) I think about a bigger fear. If I don’t reach out, speak in front of my ideal client, my business will not grow and I maybe I will have to take a second job or going back to my previous job. For me, the fear of not having my dream business is bigger that the fear of speaking in front of my ideal client.
What could be your biggest fear?
If you don't start your blog, maybe you will stay in the same job. In two-five years from now, you will still wonder if you should start a blog.
Fears itself is not an obstacle. The obstacles come when it becomes an inability to move through or be in relationships with others. How fears manifest in your life? Me I notice when I'm scared to do something; I usually feel tired, I procrastinate, I watch TV. In fact, my whole body look for all the "good" reasons to not do what's scaring me. It's when I push myself over my fears that I grow and become a better person. One strategy to remove a fear is to change my negative belief into a positive affirmation.
If you are scared of starting a blog, change your BELIEVE into something like: I have all the knowledge to do this, people are looking for this information, I need to share my experience with them.
Believe in yourself
One of the most important part if you want start a business or bring your existing business to the next level with a blog, you NEED to believe in yourself. Your mindset is everything to create the life that you want. If you don't believe in yourself, who will? I was the first one lacking in self-esteem, but I don't let myself in same unhappy place because I don't believe 100% in myself. Let face it, from the most successful blogger to the newbie everyone experience fear at some point in their journey. The difference between the successful entrepreneur and the one who quit is the ability to move through even if they experience fear.
What do you need to learn?
After you been truth to yourself and know what is holding you back, set a learning map. A plan for the next weeks to slowly move you through that dream. What do you need to learn to accomplish your goal? (web design, online marketing, social media.... ) Set one of those learning skills (one per week) and move to next one and the next one. The more you will learn, the more you will gain confidence and eventually step into your dream. Don't see your dream as a big unattainable goal, but instead breaking down to small steps. Of course, I'm not asking you to learn forever, at one point you will need to make the jump and step into your dream. Set all your learning skill (one per week) and set a due day (the day you will start your dream). This is important to schedule your due date to make this dream come true finally.
If you want to stop procrastinating and finally start your blog, you need to have a plan in place. Having your goals written, it's like having a GPS for a long travel trip. You don't go in a new city without a map or a GSP. If you want to accomplish your project, you need to be clear about your goal.
Read your goals at least twice a day. For each goal, close your eyes and picture yourself as if the goals were already accomplished. Think about how you feel. Write your goal on index cards, and leave one beside your bed, in your daily planner, on your fridge.
What is the biggest fear that stops? Have you started your blog already, share your strategies to overcome fears.
